Hundreds of residents have been evacuated due to the fires in the Sierra Oeste. The Community of Madrid has set up 14 reception points to assist over 2,000 affected individuals.
More than 2,000 people have been evacuated in the south and southwest of Madrid due to the devastating fires affecting the Sierra Oeste. In response to this emergency, the Community of Madrid has activated a total of 14 reception points, where care and shelter are provided to those who have had to leave their homes due to the advance of the fire. The most affected municipalities, such as Móstoles, Leganés, Getafe, and Alcorcón, have opened their facilities to accommodate a total of 623 evacuated residents, who await with uncertainty the moment they can return to their homes.
The figures are alarming: currently, there are 2,044 people housed in these temporary centres, where they are provided with basic assistance and emotional support while authorities assess the situation of the fire. In Móstoles, there are 200 evacuees, while Leganés is assisting 171, Getafe 150, and Alcorcón is hosting 102. These efforts reflect a coordinated response among the different municipalities and the community.
Besides these municipalities, other places like Villaviciosa de Odón are doing their part by hosting 215 people. Brunete has also opened its doors with 182 evacuees, while Villamanta houses another 200 citizens. The situation is critical in several nearby localities, where the flames continue to advance.
As emergency teams work tirelessly to control the fire, many evacuees face an uncertain future. Not knowing when they will be able to return or in what condition they will find their homes, these families rely on the support provided by local and regional authorities.
At the regional level, in addition to the previously mentioned points, Las Rozas has set up a space for 250 people, Alcalá de Henares also offers shelter for another 200 people, and Alcobendas adds another 200 evacuees. In total, these centres are assisting approximately 650 additional individuals.
Despite the collective effort to provide immediate help, many are evacuating not only their homes but also their usual surroundings. Authorities are working hard to assess the damage caused by the fire and provide updated information on the situation.
