A forest fire in Lozoyuela has triggered a series of events culminating in the arrest of a 52-year-old man, accused of starting the fire. The situation escalated when more than a hundred people were evacuated and another two thousand were forced to remain confined in their homes. The Minister of Environment, Agriculture and Interior, Carlos Novillo, reported on the evolution of the fire during a meeting held on Friday morning.
The fire, which is not yet fully under control, is in the stabilization phase. Although there are currently no active flames, authorities are maintaining constant vigilance due to adverse weather conditions expected for the day. An increase in wind and high temperatures could reignite areas where the fire has already passed.
Novillo highlighted that there are currently 28 ground units and nine aerial units ready to act if necessary. Although it is estimated that around 770 hectares have been affected by the fire, this figure is expected to decrease when considering the wooded areas that have not suffered damage.
Fortunately, no injuries or significant material damage have been reported so far. However, confinement in nearby municipalities such as Cinco Villas remains active as authorities continue to monitor the situation.
The arrest of the suspect was made possible thanks to testimonies provided by local residents. This individual was caught attempting to flee the scene with a lighter in his possession and has a history related to similar fires in other parts of the country. Francisco Martín, the Government Delegate in Madrid, confirmed these details and emphasized the importance of collaboration between citizens and law enforcement to resolve this case.

Although confinement has been lifted for Buitrago and Puentes Viejas, it is crucial to remain alert for future updates on the fire situation and to follow the recommendations issued by emergency services.
