A forest fire that broke out in Lozoyuela has led to the confinement of Buitrago de Lozoya and the evacuation of several urbanisations. The Guardia Civil has arrested an individual related to the fire.
A forest fire started yesterday in Lozoyuela at 16:00 hours, and quickly spread, leading to the activation of operational level 2 of the Civil Protection Plan against Forest Fires. This incident has resulted in the preventive confinement of the inhabitants of Buitrago de Lozoya and nearby districts, affecting nearly 2,000 people. Additionally, around 70 residents from the San Lázaro urbanisation and other homes close to the fire's epicentre have been evacuated.
The Government Delegate in Madrid, Francisco Martín, announced the arrest of a man suspected of having started the fire. This individual was captured following a chase that began when neighbours alerted authorities about his suspicious behaviour. According to Martín, the detainee has a history related to fires in other parts of the country and was carrying materials that could be linked to the ignition of the fire.
As the flames advanced, emergency services implemented drastic measures to ensure public safety. Traffic was cut off on the A-1 motorway and several secondary roads to facilitate the work of the firefighting teams. In total, 28 ground units and nine aerial resources have been mobilised, including additional support from the Military Emergency Unit (UME).
Affected residents received an ES-Alert message urging them to stay indoors with doors and windows closed. Authorities also recommended avoiding unnecessary travel in the area while the fire is being controlled.
At this hour, operations are being coordinated from an Advanced Command Post located at the local Fire Station. The crisis committee is continuously assessing the situation from the headquarters to ensure an effective response to this emergency.
The regional president, Isabel Díaz Ayuso, expressed her support for the teams working tirelessly to control the fire and protect citizens. For his part, Francisco Martín urged all residents to maintain extreme precautions while efforts to extinguish the flames continue.
