A chaotic morning for travellers
This Wednesday, thousands of Cercanías Madrid users faced another day of significant delays due to a fault at Atocha station. From early on, lines C2, C3, C4, C7, C8, and C10 were affected by this incident, which has generated great discontent among the people of Madrid.
Through its official channels, ADIF confirmed that they are working to resolve the issue “as quickly as possible,” although they did not provide details about the cause of the fault. This lack of information has intensified frustration among passengers who rely on the service to reach their jobs and educational centres.
Trains on line C4 originating from Parla are only running to Villaverde Alto, while trains on line C4a have limited their route from Alcobendas-San Sebastián de los Reyes to Chamartín. Meanwhile, line C7 is being diverted via O'Donnell, further complicating the situation for those trying to travel across the capital.
Given the critical situation, Cercanías Madrid has advised travellers to seek alternative transport. On social media, some users have expressed their despair at waiting over an hour at stations like Villaverde Bajo without receiving clear information about their journeys.

Atocha has become a nerve centre where any incident generates a domino effect that quickly affects the entire network. The Transport Councillor of the Community of Madrid, Jorge Rodrigo, lamented this new episode and highlighted that during 2026, more than 560 incidents related to the service have already been recorded.

Shortly before ten in the morning, ADIF announced that the fault had been resolved; however, they warned that the normalisation of the service would be gradual. Passengers continue to await clear answers and effective solutions to what appears to be a chronic problem in Madrid's railway infrastructure.
