The Fuenlabrada City Council launches the 'Sports in the Parks' programme with activities such as tai chi and yoga. The sessions are free and open to all until July 31.
Fuenlabrada is gearing up for an active summer with the launch of the ‘Sports in the Parks’ programme, which will offer free physical activities in various green spaces across the city. From June 1 to July 31, residents will be able to enjoy tai chi, yoga, and fitness classes without the need for prior registration. This year, it is expected that nearly one thousand people will participate in these sessions led by professionals.
The activities will take place in the parks Loranca, La Solidaridad, La Paz, and Los Derechos Humanos, where attendees can practice yoga and tai chi. Meanwhile, fitness classes will be held at the Loranca sports centre throughout July. The Councillor for Sports, Agustín Domínguez, highlighted the importance of the programme: “It’s an initiative we repeat every year and it is very well received by the public.”
As temperatures rise, this initiative aims to promote a healthy outdoor lifestyle. With most sports facilities closed during the summer, parks become an ideal alternative for those wishing to stay active. Compared to previous years, where participation has gradually increased, this year is expected to exceed previous figures thanks to the promotion of the event.
The sessions are designed for all ages and fitness levels, allowing entire families to participate together. Moreover, no prior experience is required to join the activities; anyone interested can simply show up at the designated location.
Aside from the physical aspect, these activities also promote socialisation among neighbours and create a stronger sense of community. Organisers have observed how these initiatives contribute to improving not only physical health but also the emotional well-being of participants.
The established schedule is flexible: activities will take place both in the morning and in the afternoon throughout the week. This makes it easier for more people to find a suitable time to participate according to their daily commitments.
As summer progresses, Fuenlabrada continues to invest in initiatives that encourage healthy habits among its citizens. For those interested in participating or simply enjoying the festive atmosphere generated by these outdoor activities, there is no better time to visit these local parks.
