Modifications to Cercanías Service
The public transport network in Madrid is preparing for a series of significant changes that will affect users of the C-5 Cercanías line. Starting from 28 February, and for four consecutive weekends, travellers will need to be aware of the new conditions for the night and morning services. These alterations are a result of the works being carried out by Adif at the Atocha station, a key point in Madrid's rail transport.
The adjustments will begin to be implemented from Saturday 28 February and will last until 22 March. During this period, the service will not be available between 00:30 and 10:00 hours on Saturdays and Sundays. This poses a challenge for those who usually use this line to return home after a night out or to start their workday early.
From the start of these modifications, the C-5 line will no longer operate as a continuous route. Instead, all trains will have their origin and destination at Atocha station. This means that passengers coming from both Móstoles-El Soto and Humanes/Fuenlabrada will need to transfer at Atocha if they wish to continue their journey to other parts of Madrid.
- Móstoles-El Soto – Atocha: Trains will end their journey here.
- Humanes/Fuenlabrada – Atocha: Similarly, these trains will finish their route at this central station.
This measure is necessary to ensure mobility while the essential works to improve the rail infrastructure are carried out.
The modifications are motivated by works aimed at increasing the operational capacity of the Atocha Cercanías station. Although these changes may cause temporary inconveniences, they are expected to be beneficial in the long run by facilitating better flow not only on the C-5 but also on other lines such as the C-3 and C-4.
Given the impact these changes will have on usual times and routes, users are strongly advised to:
- Check schedules: Verify updated schedules in advance via the official Renfe website or mobile app.
- Adjust timings: Allow extra time for your journeys due to the necessary transfer.
- Stay informed: Pay attention to official communications provided by Renfe through announcements, information posters, and social media.
