Thirty unemployed young people are joining an innovative employment programme in Leganés, which combines training and work experience. The initiative aims to improve their opportunities for integration into the job market.
The Leganés City Council has taken a significant step towards improving youth employment by incorporating 30 young people under the age of 30 into a new programme designed to facilitate their access to the job market. This project, which combines paid professional experience and accredited training, aims to equip participants with the necessary tools to successfully face their job search.
Of the new positions created, 15 are designated for cleaning tasks in municipal facilities, while the other 15 correspond to administrative assistants. These young people will perform temporary roles in various areas of the City Council, allowing them to gain practical experience and relevant skills.
The selected individuals are part of the National Youth Guarantee System and were registered as job seekers with the Public Employment Service of the Community of Madrid. A notable aspect is that none previously held a qualification or professional certificate enabling them for the assigned occupations, highlighting the programme's importance in their professional development.
Carlos Delgado, the first deputy mayor, along with José Marín, the Employment councillor, welcomed the participants during an event held at the Municipal Centre Las Dehesillas. Marín explained that each young person will follow an “individualised itinerary” that will include diagnosis and personalised advice. This comprehensive approach will also cover the preparation and updating of their CVs, interview preparation, and training in digital tools.
The councillor emphasised that the ultimate goal is for participants to finish the programme not only with work experience but also with official recognised certificates. This will provide them with the necessary skills to enhance their hiring prospects and tackle the active job search with greater guarantees.
Aside from the current group, the City Council has announced plans to launch another similar programme in mid-September, aimed at individuals with prior training and work experience. Up to 42 new professional profiles are expected to be incorporated, including technicians in Law, Psychology, and Social Work, as well as specialised personnel in trades and computer programming.
This effort by the City Council is co-financed by the FSE+ Programme 2021-2027, receiving a total grant close to 722,750 euros, which represents a maximum funding of 40%. This investment aims not only to reduce youth unemployment but also to promote stable and sustainable employment integration among young people in Leganés.
As this innovative programme progresses, it is expected that more young people will gain access to meaningful job opportunities. For those interested in participating or learning more about future similar initiatives, it is recommended to stay tuned to the official publications of the City Council where details on how to register will be announced.
