Works at Atocha disrupt train service
Users of the Cercanías Madrid service will face a complicated situation over the coming weekends. Renfe has confirmed that lines C-2, C-7, C-8, and C-10 will undergo significant modifications to their routes and frequencies due to works being carried out at the Atocha station.
The alterations will begin next weekend, specifically affecting the days of April 25 and 26, as well as May 1, 2, and 3, and finally May 9 and 10. During these periods, the usual frequency will be reduced to intervals of 30 minutes, although in some cases it could extend to an hour, especially on line C-8 heading to El Escorial or Cercedilla.
The details regarding the modifications are varied. On line C-2 —which connects Guadalajara with Chamartín— trains departing from Guadalajara will have to use an alternative track to reach Atocha, making additional stops at Chamartín, Nuevos Ministerios, and Recoletos. On the other hand, trains departing from Alcalá on line C-7 will terminate their journey at Atocha without reaching Príncipe Pío.
The situation is similar for line C-10; those travelling from Villalba will only be able to reach Atocha. Additionally, the branches of line C-8 will also see changes: passengers between El Escorial and Cercedilla will need to transfer at Chamartín to continue their journey to Guadalajara.
Not only will these lines be affected; there will also be notable changes on line C-5 —Móstoles El Soto-Humanes— during the same weekends. Trains will start their journey from Atocha until 10:00 hours before returning to the same point.
Renfe recommends all its users to plan their journeys in advance and consider alternatives to avoid setbacks. The company is working hard to minimise the inconveniences caused by these necessary works to improve the railway infrastructure.
