Impact on the Cercanías Madrid network
Users of the Cercanías Madrid trains will face a challenging week due to significant delays on lines C-2, C-7, and C-8. These inconveniences are a result of a breakdown at the maintenance workshop located in Fuencarral, which has affected the usual service frequency.
The situation arose after a storm damaged the workshop's roof, leading to an increase in asbestos concentration levels. As a result, regular maintenance of the fleet has been compromised, reducing the number of trains available for operation. Travellers will have to wait up to 15 minutes between trains during peak hours, whereas this interval was previously only seven minutes.
Renfe has reported that the repair work is scheduled to be completed in approximately two weeks. However, in the meantime, the suspension of the Civis Guadalajara-Chamartín service will remain in place, which represents an additional inconvenience for those seeking more direct routes.
Despite the current situation, Renfe has ambitious plans to improve its infrastructure. The company has already awarded the contract to build a new workshop that will feature six internal tracks and offices spread over three floors. This new space aims not only to optimise the maintenance of trains in the Henares corridor and the northern area but also to ensure a more efficient service in the long term.
Given this unexpected situation, all users are advised to check the schedules before making their journeys. This is especially important for those needing to connect with key stations such as Atocha and Chamartín for intercity or long-distance trips. Renfe assures that it will provide timely information on any significant changes once the repairs are completed.
