A new chapter in Madrid's mobility
From March 28, users of Line 10 of the Madrid Metro will need to adapt to a significant change in their daily routine. The line will experience a partial closure between the stations of Nuevos Ministerios and Cuzco, due to comprehensive renovation works being carried out at the Santiago Bernabéu station.
This project, which will extend until the end of 2026, aims to modernise and adapt the station to current mobility needs. Among the most notable improvements are the installation of 12 new panoramic lifts and 24 escalators, as well as a significant expansion of the lobby, which will increase from 4,843 to over 12,400 square metres. These innovations will allow for better management of passenger flow during mass events, such as football matches or concerts.
The temporary suspension will affect thousands of daily commuters, prompting the Regional Transport Consortium to implement a comprehensive plan to mitigate the impact. A replacement line, the S10, will connect Plaza de Castilla with Nuevos Ministerios, making strategic stops at Santiago Bernabéu and Cuzco. During peak hours, this line will have up to 15 buses every 2-3 minutes, thus ensuring a viable alternative for users.
Not only will the S10 be available; travellers will also be able to use regular lines such as 27 and 147, as well as several Cercanías Renfe lines (C2, C3, C4, C7, C8, and C10). Additionally, metro lines 1 and 9 will see their frequency increased to facilitate movement through the north and centre of Madrid.
The Consortium strongly recommends planning trips in advance. Passengers should be prepared for longer travel times and inform themselves about available alternative routes. For those who prefer to walk, it is worth noting that the distance between Nuevos Ministerios and Santiago Bernabéu is approximately 900 metres (11 minutes), while between Santiago Bernabéu and Cuzco it is only 500 metres (6 minutes).
These works are part of the ambitious strategic plan by the City Council to modernise the entire metropolitan network. The goal is to provide a more accessible and efficient system that adequately responds to the growing demands of public transport in Madrid.
